CAREER HISTORY

Aug 1996 – Present. Freelance Web database programming, adding database functionality to Internet and Intranet sites. Clients include Foresight New Media, Acme.co.uk, Citigate Marchcom, Sky Rock Ltd, Context Partners, on sites for Central Office of Information, Nat West Bank, Rolls Royce and BMW, among others.

Dec 1995 - Aug 1996. Design and development of Web services for Europe Online in West London. HTML, CGI and data formatting scripts, mostly in Perl.

Oct 1990 - Dec 1995. Design, development and maintenance of database applications with Ministry of Defence in London. You name it, it's classified, but generally related to analysis of trends within sets of data.

I’m also a Partner of Music to Picture, writing music soundtracks for advertising, production library and film. Clients include BBC, C4, S4C, and major advertising agencies whose names go on for ever. Production music for Carlin Music, Music Sales, Boosey & Hawkes publishers.

EXPERIENCE

General: Design and build of Content Management Systems (CMS), online catalogues etc. Defining client requirements, producing design specs, liasing with client where appropriate, producing user guides.

PHP: Intranet Dealer Marketing site for leading motor manufacturer, with MySQL back end (2002-2004). Adapting 4.1 apps to work on 4.2 (not as straightforward as it should be!)

MySQL: Database table design, maintenance, data export,

PERL: User data collection, site searches, automated email; ‘Friends Reunited‘ - type application; Web crawler/screen-scraper; automated image collection and processing (1996-2002)

ASP: database applications in Access and MySQL. (2000-2001)

Linux: Setting up own server running Red Hat v7, MySQL db, and Samba Server (2000-2001)

Some experience with JavaScript and VBScript, but I’m no guru.

Previous experience in Oracle v5,6 and 7, C, Ingres, ICL Unix shell, even FMLI and COBOL, all mercifully forgotten.

Numerous courses in various db’s and languages while with MOD; Certificate in Systems Analysis & Design (SSADM v4), 1995.
